THE BEGINNINGS
It was a hot afternoon in Bangkok where the bustling noise of congested traffic would easily get on anybody's nerves. Whilst away in the tranquil greenry and waters of Nai Lert Park, a group of affluent ladies were having their afternoon high tea and savouring the fine selection of pastry being served. In the air-conditioned comfort of the cafe and glancing into the park through the tall glass panels, a conversation regarding the making of pastry was taking place. It soon became quite apparent that none of these ladies ever had chance to learn pastry making from a master chef even though the thought cross their minds many times before.
One of the ladies decided to call Jay, a well-known connoisseur of pastry and personal friend of hers. It was a coincidence that the pastry chef of the cafe they were having their high tea was an old acquaintance of Jay. Jay came over and briefly introduced the chef to the ladies. At that moment, Jay suggested that it would be a good idea to form a club so that the chef and ladies could get together on a regular basis to learn and savour pastry. Everybody thought that was a great idea and agreed in unison.
Thus, on 15 May 2008, The Pastry Club was formed. Ever since that fateful afternoon the club has been endeavouring to help both pastry professionals and lovers alike to promote or engage in the fine art of pastry creation. |
